![]() EYELID SURGERY (Blepharoplasty) Eyelid surgery or Blepharoplasty is a procedure that removes excess skin, fat and, muscle from the upper and lower eyelids. Eyelid surgery can correct drooping eyelids, which sometimes interfere with sight, and puffy bags below your eyes. The overall effect of the surgery is a more alert, youthful look that is long lasting. Blepharoplasty can not help dark circles under the eyes, remove crows feet or other wrinkles, or lift sagging eyebrows. However, Eyelifts are often done in conjunction with Facelifts and/or Forehead lifts for an overall smoother face. The Eyelid procedure is mostly done on an out-patient basis, under sedation analgesia or, in rare instances, under general anesthesia. The surgery takes one to three hours, depending on the procedures performed. There is generally only minor discomfort after the surgery which can be handled with medication prescribed by the doctor and should subside in a couple of days. Patients often experience puffiness, and itching around the incisions and possible bruising. Most of this will fade completely in one to two weeks. Patients may also experience dryness of, or tightness around the eyes which is helped by eye drops or ointments prescribed by the doctor. Generally patients feel and look good enough to return to work in one to two weeks. Patients are required to have someone drive them home after the procedure and it is recommended that someone be around the first 24 hours for assistance. In most cases, you may return to normal activity as tolerated. The doctor will discuss timing for return to contact lenses and make-up. It is very important to follow the doctors post-operative instructions carefully in order to get the full benefit from the surgery. Expect to achieve the best results in about three months. |
